The Lord God to the whole of the Earth:
I created the lights in the heavens – of the sun, moon, planets, and stars to be for light and darkness, signs and wonders, seasons and times, feasts and festivals, days and nights, weeks and months, years and decades, centuries and millennia, ages and epochs, periods and eras, eons and temporalities, and most of all, for eternality. *
In particular, I created the sun and the moon more so for man and the Earth – for light, warmth, comfort, measurements of time, and other as of yet unrevealed purposes.
Although several great purposes, of course, have been for warmth and light, such were also for food, sustenance, and the air and atmosphere which all living things, as well as many other non-living things, need to exist (in one way or another).
However, man has abused his dominion over the Earth …
… and because the world, the sun, and the moon are mysteriously interlinked, he has therefore abused the sun and the moon, also in perverse ways!
